Amazon fee calculator
The referral fee, category by category.
Amazon charges a referral fee on every sale, and unlike most marketplaces the rate is not one number — it runs from 3% to 45% depending on the category, and a third of the categories are banded rather than flat. Two different bandings are in use and they behave very differently: some charge each slice of the price at its own rate, others charge the whole price at the rate for the band it lands in. Both are modelled here.

Optional — for profit
On a $51.00 sale, Amazon takes $7.65 — 15% of what the buyer paid — and $43.35 reaches you. You keep 85% of the order.

Professional selling plan — $39.99 per month. This is not a per-sale cost, so it is kept out of the figures above. Across 100 orders a month it adds $0.40 per order; across 10 it adds $4.00.
On this sale, Amazon ranks 14 of 16 for what reaches you.

- FBA fulfilment and storage fees are NOT included. Amazon publishes those only inside its logged-in Revenue Calculator, not as a schedule that can be sourced and dated, and they depend on the size tier and weight of the individual product. Estimating them here would be inventing numbers. If you use FBA, add your per-unit fulfilment cost separately — this page prices selling on Amazon, not shipping through it.
- Pet Supplies is 15% here; veterinary diets are charged at 22%.
- Fine Art carries a $1.00 minimum referral fee on its first band, which is modelled as the overall minimum for the category.
- A product’s fee category is assigned by Amazon and is not always the category shoppers see in the store.
- Advertising, long-term storage, removal and refund administration fees are all separate and not modelled.
Amazon fees: common questions
How much does Amazon take from a $50 sale?
$7.50 on a $50 sale, leaving you $42.50 — an effective rate of 15%. On $100 it is $15.00, leaving $85.00. The rate differs between the two because Amazon charges a fixed amount per transaction as well as a percentage, so the flat part weighs more heavily on smaller orders.
What are Amazon's fees, exactly?
On a $50 sale, Amazon charges referral fee of $7.50 (15% of $50.00). That comes to $7.50 in total. There is also $39.99 per month, which is not charged per sale.
Does Amazon charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Amazon calculates its percentage on the order total, which includes the shipping you charged the buyer. A $50 item with free shipping costs $7.50 in fees; the same item with $10 shipping costs $9.00 — $1.50 more, on shipping money that mostly goes to the carrier. Raising your shipping price raises your Amazon bill.
What should I charge on Amazon to keep $50?
Work it backwards rather than guessing: at Amazon's rates you have to charge more than $50 to keep $50, because the fee is taken from what the buyer pays. The what-to-charge calculator solves for the exact price, including the flat per-transaction fee, and rounds up to the cent so you are never left short.
Is Amazon's monthly fee worth it?
That depends entirely on your order volume, not your revenue. $39.99 per month is the same whether you sell nothing or thousands, so spread across 10 orders a month it adds $4.00 per order, and across 100 it adds $0.40. Compare that against the per-sale saving before deciding — the plan fee is deliberately kept out of the per-sale figures on this page for exactly that reason.
What does this Amazon calculator not include?
FBA fulfilment and storage fees are NOT included.
Are these Amazon fees up to date?
They were read from Amazon's own published fee schedule on August 29, 2026, and the source is linked on this page so you can check it yourself. An automated check re-reads every source page weekly and flags any that have changed. Fee schedules do move without notice, so where this page and Amazon disagree, Amazon is right.
That is what Amazon takes. What the unit actually earns is another question again, once shipping, advertising and the orders that come back are in the picture — work out the true margin.

There is no account, no email wall and nothing for sale here, which is deliberate — it is what lets the site publish what platforms actually charge and link to where each rate came from. Re-reading ten fee schedules every week is the unglamorous part, and it is what keeps the numbers worth trusting. If that saved you a bad listing decision, you are welcome to put a little toward the domain and the hosting. If it did not, please do not.
