The plan fee is the same whether you sell nothing or thousands, so the number that matters is the blended one — plan cost spread across the orders you actually take. Using a payment provider other than Shopify Payments adds a separate transaction fee on top of whatever that provider charges you.

How much does Shopify take from a $50 sale?
$1.75 on a $50 sale, leaving you $48.25 — an effective rate of 3.5%. On $100 it is $3.20, leaving $96.80. The rate differs between the two because Shopify charges a fixed amount per transaction as well as a percentage, so the flat part weighs more heavily on smaller orders.
What are Shopify's fees, exactly?
On a $50 sale, Shopify charges online card rate of $1.45 (2.9% of $50.00), per-transaction fee of $0.30 ($0.30 flat). That comes to $1.75 in total. There is also $29.00 per month, billed yearly, which is not charged per sale.
Does Shopify charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Shopify calculates its percentage on the order total, which includes the shipping you charged the buyer. A $50 item with free shipping costs $1.75 in fees; the same item with $10 shipping costs $2.04 — $0.29 more, on shipping money that mostly goes to the carrier. Raising your shipping price raises your Shopify bill.
What should I charge on Shopify to keep $50?
Work it backwards rather than guessing: at Shopify's rates you have to charge more than $50 to keep $50, because the fee is taken from what the buyer pays. An automated check re-reads every source page weekly and flags any that have changed. Fee schedules do move without notice, so where this page and Shopify disagree, Shopify is right.
