Mercari changed direction twice in two years, and most fee calculators still have not caught up. It removed seller fees entirely, found that buyers bought less because prices rose to compensate, and reinstated a 10% selling fee on 6 January 2025. The catch is that the change applies per listing rather than per account: a listing created before that date keeps its exemption until the moment you edit it.

- Mercari no longer charges sellers a payment processing fee on listings created or updated since 6 January 2025, so there is no separate processing line here.
- Buyers pay a 3.6% Buyer Protection fee on top of the price. That is a buyer cost, not a seller one, so it is not deducted here — but it raises what the buyer sees and can affect whether the item sells.
- A pre-2025 listing loses its fee exemption permanently the first time it is edited, including by a price change.
- Shipping label costs, promotions and Mercari Local are priced separately and are not modelled.

How much does Mercari take from a $50 sale?
$5.00 on a $50 sale, leaving you $45.00 — an effective rate of 10%. On $100 it is $10.00, leaving $90.00. The rate differs between the two because Mercari charges a fixed amount per transaction as well as a percentage, so the flat part weighs more heavily on smaller orders.
What are Mercari's fees, exactly?
On a $50 sale, Mercari charges selling fee of $5.00 (10% of $50.00). That comes to $5.00 in total. There is no monthly fee.
Does Mercari charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Mercari calculates its percentage on the order total, which includes the shipping you charged the buyer. A $50 item with free shipping costs $5.00 in fees; the same item with $10 shipping costs $6.00 — $1.00 more, on shipping money that mostly goes to the carrier. Raising your shipping price raises your Mercari bill.
What should I charge on Mercari to keep $50?
Work it backwards rather than guessing: at Mercari's rates you have to charge more than $50 to keep $50, because the fee is taken from what the buyer pays.
