Teachable fee calculator

Online courses and coaching. 7.5% on Starter, 0% from Builder, plus processing.

Teachable charges a sales transaction fee that depends on your plan: 7.5% on Starter at $39 a month, and nothing on Builder at $89 or Growth at $189. Teachable says it takes no cut of your earnings on Builder and above, but payment processing still applies on every plan. Through Teachable Payments, its own processor, a US card sale costs 2.9% + $0.30 and an international card sale 3.9% + $0.30; a US PayPal sale costs 3.49% + $0.49 and an international one 4.99% + $0.49. Teachable has no free plan, so the monthly price is shown separately below.

Teachable Starter (billed monthly) — $39.00 per month. This is not a per-sale cost, so it is kept out of the figures above. Across 100 orders a month it adds $0.39 per order; across 10 it adds $3.90.

On this sale, Teachable ranks 19 of 29 for what reaches you.

What this calculator does not cover

  • Teachable's pricing page lists the 7.5% Starter fee as a sales transaction fee without saying what it is charged on, so it is applied to the sale price, the same amount processing is charged on.
  • Monthly prices are the billed-monthly rates. Billed annually, Teachable lists Starter at $29, Builder at $69 and Growth at $139 a month. A Custom plan is priced by Teachable's sales team and is not modelled.
  • Processing is the Teachable Payments rate. Schools that sell through a custom payment gateway pay that gateway's own rates instead, which are not modelled.
  • Teachable also lists a $15 chargeback fee and an optional BackOffice fee of 2–2.8% for its creator payout service. Both are left out: a chargeback is not part of a normal sale, and the BackOffice fee is optional and published only as a range.
  • Students who join without a purchase (free products, imports, manual enrollment) count against an allowance of 100 per school, and Teachable charges $0.50 a month for each one above that. Students who buy through Teachable checkout never count, so this does not affect a sale.
  • Teachable handles sales tax and VAT at checkout. Enter the price before tax; tax is passed to the government and is not a fee.
  • The pricing page publishes no currency conversion fee, so the currency switch adds nothing here. An international sale is priced at the international card or PayPal rate.

Teachable fees: common questions

How much does Teachable take from a $50 sale?

$5.50 in fees on a $50 sale, leaving you $44.50 — an effective rate of 11%. On $100 it is $10.70, leaving $89.30. The effective rate is higher on the smaller sale because part of the fee is a fixed amount per transaction, which weighs more heavily on smaller orders.

What are Teachable's fees, exactly?

On a $50 sale, the fees are transaction fee of $3.75 (7.5% of $50.00), payment processing of $1.75 (2.9% of $50.00 + $0.30). That comes to $5.50 in total. There is also $39.00 per month, which is not charged per sale.

What should I charge on Teachable to keep $50?

Work it backwards rather than guessing: at Teachable's rates you have to charge more than $50 to keep $50, because the fee is taken from what the buyer pays. The what-to-charge calculator solves for the exact price, including any flat per-transaction fee, and rounds up to the cent so you are never left short.

Is Teachable's monthly fee worth it?

That depends entirely on your order volume, not your revenue. $39.00 per month is the same whether you sell nothing or thousands, so spread across 10 orders a month it adds $3.90 per order, and across 100 it adds $0.39. Compare that against the per-sale saving before deciding — the plan fee is deliberately kept out of the per-sale figures on this page for exactly that reason.

What does this Teachable calculator not include?

Teachable's pricing page lists the 7.5% Starter fee as a sales transaction fee without saying what it is charged on, so it is applied to the sale price, the same amount processing is charged on.

Are these Teachable fees up to date?

They were read from Teachable's own published fee schedule on October 18, 2026, and the source is linked on this page so you can check it yourself. An automated check re-reads every source page weekly and flags any that have changed. Fee schedules do move without notice, so where this page and Teachable disagree, Teachable is right.

That is what Teachable takes. What the unit actually earns is another question again, once shipping, advertising and the orders that come back are in the picture — work out the true margin.

There is no account, no email wall and nothing for sale here, which is deliberate — it is what lets the site publish what platforms actually charge and link to where each rate came from. Re-reading ten fee schedules every week is the unglamorous part, and it is what keeps the numbers worth trusting. If that saved you a bad listing decision, you are welcome to put a little toward the domain and the hosting. If it did not, please do not.
