$5.20 on a $50 sale, leaving you $44.80 — an effective rate of 10.4%. On $100 it is $9.95, leaving $90.05. The rate differs between the two because Etsy charges a fixed amount per transaction as well as a percentage, so the flat part weighs more heavily on smaller orders.
What are Etsy's fees, exactly?
On a $50 sale, Etsy charges listing fee of $0.20 ($0.20 per listing), transaction fee of $3.25 (6.5% of $50.00), payment processing of $1.75 (3% of $50.00 + $0.25). That comes to $5.20 in total. There is no monthly fee.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. Etsy calculates its percentage on the order total, which includes the shipping you charged the buyer. A $50 item with free shipping costs $5.20 in fees; the same item with $10 shipping costs $6.15 — $0.95 more, on shipping money that mostly goes to the carrier. Raising your shipping price raises your Etsy bill.
What should I charge on Etsy to keep $50?
Work it backwards rather than guessing: at Etsy's rates you have to charge more than $50 to keep $50, because the fee is taken from what the buyer pays.
